Hey, Dr. Doolittle! Speaking cat or cockatiel is a definite advantage. My cats use eye direction and mime too. 'Open the door' is a pointed look at the door. 'Food' is a little opening and closing of the mouth with a sup-sup noise. 'I love you' is a sweet relaxed slow blinking of the eyes. Frustration and annoyance is a definite frown with a rigid shoulder and neck posture and a lashing tail. Dog is simpler. Eye direction, tail-wagging and barking, with not much range of vocabulary. Yes! That's food! Archie does that too! So that's what blinking means! I blink to Tanya's cat Mewbie and she blinks to me. She also headbutts me. I haven't seen the frustration look but I'll look for it. I knew cats had a language!
