An update. Cyclone Yasi claims first victimStaff reporters The Sydney Morning Herald February 4, 2011 - 11:25AM

A 23-year-old man has been found dead on a property near Ingham after suffocating while sheltering from Cyclone Yasi.
Police are trying to track down two other men who have been reported missing in north Queensland.
A police spokeswoman said they had found a man's body in Bambaroo, south of Ingham, yesterday morning.

"He was sheltering inside a residence when he was overcome with fumes from a generator," the spokeswoman said.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the man had been using a generator for power inside a closed room.
"This is a dangerous thing to do," she said. "The coroner wanted me to make people understand that if you are using a generator for power, doing it in a closed room without any ventilation means you are at risk from asphyxiation from diesel fumes."
The Queensland Police Service said it offered its condolences to the man's family and friends.
A police statement said the incident highlighted the need for people to use caution when operating generators and to ensure appropriate ventilation.
It is the first confirmed death from the devastating category five cyclone that crossed the coast early yesterday.
Two missing
Police resumed a sea and air search of Port Hinchinbrook in the hope of locating a man who has been missing since moving his boat before Cyclone Yasi struck.
A second man has also been reported missing in the Cardwell area, state disaster co-ordinator Ian Stewart confirmed this morning. The man was reported missing by his sister who lives in Brisbane.
Another man who was reported missing in the Innisfail area was yesterday located safe and well.
A police spokesman said the Port Hinchinbrook man failed to contact associates, adding that the missing person report was lodged from Canada.
The man, who is aged in his 30s, has a tanned complexion and solid build. He is believed to be on a yacht named Panku.
"He said he was moving his vessel into the mangroves to be safe from the storm surge," the police spokesman said.
"Since that time we haven't heard from him. We can't get into that area by foot. We're trying to get a police water search as soon as we can, as well as do an aerial survey of the area."
Water police reached Port Hinchinbrook this morning after their boats were moved to sheltered moorings before Yasi arrived.
Yasi downgraded
The Bureau of Meterology downgraded the former category five cyclone from a category one about 10.30pm yesterday as it travelled west across Queensland, between Richmond and Mount Isa.
An earlier bureau cyclone warning for the tropical interior from west of Richmond to the Northern Territory border, including Mount Isa and Winton, has been cancelled.
At 10pm the tropical low was estimated to be 325 kilometres west of Richmond and 55 kilometres east of Mount Isa and moving west-south-west at 32km/h.

It was overcast here in Sydney so the sun eclipsed itself without our admiration. Here's what it was like at Cairns and Port Douglas in far north Queensland. www.eclipsecairns.com/

How is Oztralia? Is your house on fire? Why does Oz have so many biblical disasters? Is it because you were mean to the aboriginals? I hope you are not on fire.

Is 100 km far for a fire to travel? I looked it up and it is 160 miles, about as far as Tucson is from Phoenix, the next big city over. By my maths you have about 8 hours before the fire reaches you if the wind is at it's back. How is paddle cat? He won't be able to run with that big paw. Did the paw go down yet? If the fire does come will you stay and fight for your house or evacuate? Can Sydney burn down? It's such a big city.

No, we're too built up here. It's unlikely the bush fires will reach anywhere too near.
Paddle cat's paw has subsided. She just chirruped. She's fine.
