I don't typically read fantasy but I'm glad I jumped into this one. Wise Man's Fear just came out. Now we await the third to complete the trilogy.

The story is about a former arcanist/adventurer who goes into hiding from ominous enemies and a dark past. He opens a tavern in a distant forest, but when he is discovered by a traveling author who identifies him as the legendary Kvothe he agrees to tell his story.
The structure is split into the present and past. In the present we have Kvothe the innkeeper, his young apprentice and the author who goes by Chronicler. Kvothe agrees to tell his story but says it will take three full days; hence the three books in the trilogy. Most of the story takes place in the past as Kvothe narrates it during his time at University where he learns about magic, dark forces and the like.
I highly recommend it.

Why would anyone want to kill the king? Did he have an affair with a horse in a sombrero?
