Really? You can lipread? Does it work with animals? Have you ever tried? I wish I could lipread, or at least do sign language.

I couldn't say that I was an expert, but I believe it is an unconscious skill that comes when hearing is not one hundred precent perfect. To me I found a mix of the two, hearing & reading lips, helps me to gain more information...
I assume animals don't have the same control over they lips as well do, hence we are the only mammal that speaks by shaping our mouths to create different vibration of sound = languages.
Thanks Avril!!! (eyes staring) I wasn't sure of the nature of these words and what context they derived from...

Wow---lipreading. I work with hearing-impaired workers at our VA(Veterans) hospital. If you work woth them long enough, you pick up the sign-language fairly quickly. (It took me forever though to stop talking when their backs were turned to me.) I still can't lip-read.

Hi, This is Roger aka Wombat. Yes, surprising as it is, I am using my other name! Anyway, I am going to attempt to contribute every now and then (which will be an upgrade on what I was doing at that OTHER forum). Ok, some of you may have heard of me as Wombat, so how did Wombat come about you may ask? I am an actor who's been doing films and theatre in Australia for quite a while. My first gig was in a shadow puppet play where I played Wally the (you guessed it!) Wombat. Then when I visited Hanging Rock in Victoria (it does exist, not only as the film Picnic At Hanging Rock) I saw a giant wombat running in front of me. Later I found out that when I was a baby my Big Brother decided to teach me an uncommon word which then became my second spoken word. No prizes for guessing what name he taught me was. Anyway, at the moment both Roger and Wombat are very excited about getting married to the beautiful gorgeous and wonderful Avril. Yeaaaah!!! I'll try not to be too split personality with all of this! So this is my very momentous occasion coming up very shortly, and of course Avril and I will keep you all posted. I look forward to chatting with you all. Signing off now from a very bright and sunny morning in Sydney, Roger

Hullo Wombut! Your sexy arm hair is in my dossier. So whut made you finally marry the Naughty Avrilly? Has she been nagging you endlessly & forever over nasty veggiterian sausages made out of pumpkin peel? Is Avrilly quite the Hussy? I would ask Olivia Newton John but shes nearly 90.

"Time, time, time", the old white rabbit said as he scurried down a burrow into the twilight of palatial splendour. "Yes, it is definitely time; that is one thing I can be sure of more than many things", he was heard to say, or at least I believe that is what he said. But what do I hear from out of another burrow on high eastern hill? Is that the voice of a wombat calling from deep in the earth? Is that the song of the Eastern Hairy Wombat? Is he singsonging of the love of his life? Is he singing of the splendour of April? Yes, I believe it is that very beautiful and magical song which we are very very lucky to hear. And the song will reach it's zenith when the Spring Equinox comes around.
