You probably know we have our first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. I'm not going to say anything about the way she and right-wing factions of the Labour Party ousted our duly elected but fallible previous PM Kevin Rudd. Nope. But I probably won't be voting Labour in the next election. Back to my traditional support of the Greens, broken only to vote in Kevin Rudd. Of course the first thing a usurping PM would do is to hold a general election. Wouldn't you? They're having an important electoral debate soon. Trouble is, it conflicts with the finale of MasterChef, one of the highest rating, non-sporting TV shows in Oz history. www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/masterchef-whips-up-a-plan-to-keep-hungry-fans-guessing-20100721-10l9k.htmlSo, the newspaper tells me this morning that they've "shifted an election debate, one of the most important things in this country, because the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader understand how important this show is to people.'' There you go. They know what we need and what's important to us. Our future is safe with these people in charge.

Maybe they want to watch it themselves.

Of course they do. It's a very smart thing to do. I still wonder how many people will watch the debate.

Well, finally the wait is over. The most closely contested election in Oz history has resulted in Labour's landslide triumph of one extra seat and a minority government. It was so close that after all the votes were counted it came down to which way two Independents would swing - 17 days after the election. Our first female PM gets to have another go.

That belt is highly unflattering. It looks more like an apron.

It wasn't directed squarely at our PM. The protests were aim our opposition leader, who's comment inflamed their fury.
