How is the economy where you live? Are there lots of homeless or has the government been hiding them really well? Have any government services been cut back? DO you feel poorer or just the same? Are you starting to scrape away at that last sticky bit of peanut butter at the bottom of the jar?

The city and the state are both bankrupt despite the fact the AZ pays very high taxes compared to other states. I don't know what they spend the money on but it isn't roads, or schools.

We just had our taxes increase by 1%- 5% depending on what you are buying (15% total tax)! eik, the housing market appears to just have started to slowly crash (due to interest rates increasing and taxes increasing).

There's lots of jobs in Federal government; USAJOBS.gov. But small businesses aren't hiring much here too. I notice there are a lot more little food stands on the roads. Every little bit helps the family.

I dont notice beggars beating down on our car windows yet, but I can hear people whispuring in queues and markets about losing their jobs. Lots of stores to let these days too. I dont think I am in danger of losing my job, but Im not really a worrywart.

Wait 5 years when the world starts running out of oil. Everyone will be jobless then.

I hear a commend made a couple of days ago about how permanent jobs won't existed in the future. Causal seems to be the norm these days...

Me too. Casual for me means no holiday pay unless there's a long weekend within term time. I get paid $12.50 per assignment I mark too. At an average of an hour and a half per essay (including time spent viewing and replaying practice session videos), that's way below the minimum wage.

I'm reading a book that links prostate and breast cancer to dairy products and meat from dairy cows (hello hamburger). It's based on the fact that Chinese people on a traditional Chinese diet do not get breast or prostate cancer to nearly the degree of those eating a dairy/beef heavy Western diet, and also based on the evidence of the writer, a scientist, who cured her own fifth episode of breast cancer by cutting out dairy and beef from her diet. The book's called Your Life in Your Hands by Professor Jane Plant. www.cancersupportinternational.com/janeplant.com/If the West - where rates of breast and prostate cancer are in the order of 10% to 30% of the population depending on where you are - were to adopt a dairy-free, beef-free diet, guess who would go bankrupt? Can you imagine soya Shakes and tofu Big Macs? Still thinking of an ice-cream tasting biz, Arch?
